Nothing inspires the spirit of adventure more than a breath-taking travel film. Though the premise of skipping airport queues, getting free upgrades or finding romance is a tad exaggerated and mostly a total sham, one’s thing for sure the places, scenes, views and architecture do not lie on film.

So I have hand-selected ten movies that I hope ignite the travelling bone in you.

1) Tokyo, Japan – Lost in Translation

Finding solace in each other’s in a city that is perfect in its chaos, Lost in Translation follows two strangers who cut loose and revel in Tokyo’s sights, sounds and energy. A definitely must for those city-lovers, and being in Japan just breathes some exoticness to it all.

2) New Zealand –  Lord Of The Rings

It was reported that Into The Wild was shot over 35 different locations in a span of two years. Based on a true story, the story follows a recent graduate who gave up his privilege life for an arduous adventure that started from Georgia, before venturing through South Dakota, Arizona, Nevada, Mexico and California, to finally reaching the solitudes of Alaska. Above are three real-life images featured in the film, but of course there are more which you can find here.

Tuscany stays a hundred percent authentic to the film of Under The Tuscan Sun with its gorgeous hilltop town at Cortona, and the wide stone stairway of the central plaza. Definitely a place to visit if you even though of dropping by Italy for a vacay.

6) Las Vegas, U.S.A – The Hungover

On Film:

IRL:

I don’t think we need a introduction for both the film and location. Las Vegas, the city of vice (in a good way I hope?) beckons you because you know what they say whatever happens in Vegas.

7) Koh Phi Phi, Thailand – The Beach

On Film:

IRL:

I don’t know whether to be distracted by the stunning beauty of the Koh Phi Phi island, or how young Leonardo DiCaprio is. Nonethelss, young Leonardo fulfils the dreams of backpackers by going on thrilling adventure to this island and keeping at the edge of seats as the plot takes a dark turn of event.

8) Lhasa, Tibet – Seven Years in Tibet

On Film:

IRL:

Potala Palace

Jokhang Temple

Even though the entire movie wasn’t film at Tibet due to the scrutiny of the Indian and Chinese government, we still get a glimpse of Tibet and its culture through the eyes of the protagonist during the eve of the Chinese invasion.

8) Bruges, Belgium – In Bruges

On Film:

IRL:

“Shoot First, Sightsee Later” is the slogan that comes along with this comedy, crime drama film, but just looking at the scenic views of Bruges, you might choose to do the latter first! Brimming with historical and medieval influences, Bruges is said to be a great destination to step back in time and serves as a perfection destination for a European adventure.

9) New York City, U.S.A – Sex and the City

On Film:

IRL:

If you’re an avid SATC fan, you might have already know the ins and outs of the Big Apple by following the lives of four female New Yorkers. If not, this ultimate chick flick is sure to invigorate your being to visit the city that never sleeps at least once in your life.
